queenofhalves: faith and film: "One of the things we always pressed at the first session for this agnostic & atheist group I was part of was that one could be agnostic and atheist. They are not mutually exclusive but describe two slightly separate spheres of belief.

Agnosticism deals with one's epistemological stance - what we can know about God. Atheism (and theism) deal with one's metaphysical stance - whether or not they believe a God actually exists.

So someone can be an agnostic atheist or even an agnostic theist. There is even a further differentiation of atheism into weak and strong but I'll leave that for later."
